How do we get people interested?
Related to country: Nigeria

I was in Enugu some months ago and sent off a letter to the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, requesting that he get back to me on a proposed entrepreneurship training to be organized for young people in the state, but he never ever got back to me, though I went on a number of follow up visits.

How do we get people more actively interested in youth development? Especially those that are supposed to be stakeholders in this aspect of human/youth development?

generating interest: a response to Billie
Dear Billie,
That happens to many young people. Your case is demonstrative of what many young people, esp young Africans, go through everyday in their exploits in bringing about change.

I think several strategies could work. There is a famous Somali saying " one hand can not wash itself alone". I always heard that a group of people who have organised themselves, are more visible and effectiver than an individual.

Secondly, we shouldt not be asking for these things from our govts but DEMANDING them. I wish u lots of luck.

You are doing a good thing and i am of opinion that your governor in Enugu is missing alot of potential and expertise by ignoring your letter. I hope he gets a wakeup call....soon if not from his own colleagues than from one of the ancestral spirits of mother Africa (who will slap him in his sleep!!!)...

Good luck and let us know how things develop for you...

Thanks for your responses. I have been inactive on tig for a while because I was going through a disillusioned phase with the who NGO sector.

But now I am tackling this whole issue from a new point of view that would make it extremely difficult for efforts that young people make to be ignored by the money guzzling politicians that run our country.
